Sparrowhawk Kill

First thing in the morning I watch the birds in my garden. I've tried to develop a wildlife haven and am pleased with the increasing numbers of creatures that now seem to reside, including an itinerant hedgehog!

This morning I was watching an unusual number of doves gather, when a flurry of feathers and this hawk kill happened before my eyes. Even though he was very close I found it hard to identify from my bird book. But I concluded that this is a Sparrowhawk and is one of the most common birds of prey in the UK. Even so, not something you'd expect to see on the lawn in a suburb of London!
